Pitsford Reservoir is an Anglian Water owned site which provides local drinking water. North of the road causeway the northern section of the reservoir is managed as a nature reserve by a permanently appointed warden from The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire in association with Anglian Water.
The water is also managed as a trout fishery and the area south of the causeway is classed as a public park with a track suitable for pedestrians and cycles all the way around. The active Northampton Sailing Club is situated near the dam.
Bird Ringing has been occurring on this site for some decades with previous leadership from John Woollett and subsequently Dave Francis. Most of the bird ringing occurs on the reserve section and there are multiple nest boxes for a variety of species, tern and gull rafts and all year round and seasonal bird feeding stations.
The current Ringer in Charge is Neil McMahon.
