Compton Estates

 The Falcon Hotel in Castle Ashby, Northamptonshire is owned by Lord and Lady Northampton and sits within the Castle Ashby Estate.

In 2021 Lord and Lady Northampton began a series of wellbeing classes at the hotel which includes wild water swimming, yoga, meditation and nature themed events. The nature events are deer walks, wildlife walks in a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and bird ringing.

The bird ringing demonstrations are conducted, weather permitting, every month and are open to hotel guests and non-guests.

To date 30 ringing demonstrations have been conducted with 168 attendees.

A single 60’ net is erected with feeders positioned each side and although the bulk of the catches are Blue and Great Tits it has allowed some more interesting woodland species to be shown to attendees including Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch and Treecreeper.
