Harrington Airfield is a disused WW2 airfield that has mostly returned to agriculture. It sits on a plateau off the B576 between Lamport and Rothwell and has been a birding site since the early nineteen eighties.
In recent years the landowner has given permission for some areas to be utilised for bird ringing and not surprisingly this effectively dry area has proven to be an interesting site for resident and migrant birds. The two most numerous species processed have traditionally been Redwing and Yellowhammer. Supplementary feeding takes place in the winter months. In the summer a colony of Willow Warblers breed in the scrub, perhaps the only significant colony in the county these days with birds showing a very high site fidelity.
The Ringer in Charge at this site is Neil McMahon.
