Northants Ringing Group

The Northants Bird Ringing Group operates at several sites in Northamptonshire, using mist nets and various other trapping methods in a variety of habitats from woodland to reedbeds, farm buildings to water treatment works. Under licence from the BTO (including Schedule 1 Licences) we ring all year round, when weather permits, to study migration, how long birds live, how many young different species produce each year and how birds use landscapes in which we are lucky enough to operate.

Stortons Summer migrants.

Stortons Nature Reserve provides ideal habitat for many of our summer migrants to breed. Over the years Northants Ringing Group has been fortunate to catch a wide variety of these migrants, and we have also been very lucky to recieve notification from BTO that some of the birds, originally ringed at Stortons, have been recovered outside of the UK on their migration.
